WoW Guide - Race Selection

Let's face it one of the biggest decisions in your early World of Warcraft career is to choose the right race, and with more than 8 different races to choose from this is definitely not going to be an easy task. At first you might feel a little overwhelm with all the choosing, but don't worry because even if you choose the wrong race at first there is still hope.
You see, Blizzard is aware of the fact that most new player might not know exactly which race they want to play as. So, they decided to cut everyone some slack and allow people to change their races even if they characters are already level 85!! However this isn't free; it is a service that you need to pay for.
So, if you don't want to pay any more money than you already are to play the game, I suggest you read this WoW guide carefully and start off on the right foot.
Choosing The Right Race For You
Back in 2005 when World of Warcraft was just release, the game only had a total of 8 races. But over the period of the last 6 years Blizzard has release 3 different expansion packs and 2 of them had added an extra 4 races to the game. This means that there are a total of 12 races in WoW right now, however 4 of them that comes with the new expansion can only be played if you actually own the expansions.
Ok then, let's us discuss how and what to look for when choosing the right race for you. There are 3 things you should be aware of when choosing your race. First and the most important is whether the race supports the class you want to play.
Second, will the racial base attribute and traits benefit your class. Finally, you need to know whether the race you choose is in the same faction as your friends that you want to play with, because if you end up on the opposite faction than your friend then you'll not be able to play with them much at all. Anyway, here is a breakdown of all the races by faction.
Alliance Races
Human - Humans are able to play DK (Death Knight), Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, and Warriors. Their overall base attribute/stats are very even which makes them ideal for all their playable classes. So, for human I say any class would be good, but my personal favorite is Paladin or Warrior.
Dwarf - As a Dwarf you are able to play DK, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Shaman, and Warriors. Dwarfs have lower Agility and high Stamina and Strength as their starting attributes. This usually means that it is not the best idea to play Dwarf Hunter or Rogue, but because of their high Stamina, Dwarf Rogues are great for PvP. So, in conclusion my favorite classes as a Dwarf are Priest, Warrior, and Paladin.
Night Elf - The playable races for Night Elfs are Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, and DK. Night Elfs have relatively low strength but very high Agility, so in my opinion their most idea classes would be Druid, Hunter, and Rogue.
Gnome - Gnomes are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Warlock, and DK. Gnomes have very low base Strength but high Intellect and Agility. So, some of the best class for Gnomes are Warlock, Mage, Priest, and Rogue.
Draenei (Requires "The Burning Crusade") - As Draenei you're able to play Priest, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Shaman, Paladin, and DK. Overall Draenei has average base attribute with slightly lower agility and slightly higher Spirit. The best classes for Dreanei would go for Shaman, DK, Paladin, or Priest.
Worgen (Requires "Cataclysm") - Worgen are able to play as Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, Warlock, and DK. Worgens have relatively lower Intellect but high Strength and Agility, this suggest that Worgens are best for melee classes. My favorite Worgen classes are Rogue, Hunter, Druid, Warrior, and DK.
Horde Races
Orc - The classes that Orcs are able to play are Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. Overall Orcs have high Strength, Stamina, and Spirit as their base attributes which suggests that it would be most idea for Orc to be as a Warrior, DK, and Shaman.
Forsaken (Undead) - The playable classes for Forsakens are Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, and DK. Forsakens have relatively average base stats with very high spirit. Personally I would play any race as Forsaken but if you must choose I would go with Warlock, Rogue, and Mages.
Tauren - Playable classes for Taurens include Priests, Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Paladin, and DK. They have very high Strength and good Stamina/Spirit. Personally my favorite class for Tauren is Druid, but they also make very good Shaman, Warrior, Paladin, Priests, and DK as well.
Troll - The playable classes for Trolls are Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. They have pretty average base attributes with slightly lower intellect, but it's not a big deal. Overall I would play any playable class for Troll with the exception of Mages and Warlock.
Blood Elf (Requires "The Burning Crusade) - Blood Elfs are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Paladin, and DK. Blood Elfs have high intellect and Agility, but their other stats are not too low either. Overall for Blood Elf I would personally play Mage, Warlock, Rogue, and Hunter.
Goblin (Requires "Cataclysm") - Goblins are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. Goblins have very similar stats as Blood Elfs; high intellect and Agility. Personally I would play Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Priest, and Hunter for Goblins.
That's all of the 12 playable races in World of Warcraft. I want to point out that although I have mention base attribute as a primary factor for choosing your race, but really it is not. Racial traits are actually more important but I really don't have the time to cover everything in this WoW guide.
