Contemplating the Changes in Gaming From Princess Rescues, to Sniper Montages

Gaming has come a long way since the old days of green tunnels, and side scrolling balls of flame. In fact, you could say that gaming in the present days, is something completely different than the old two button games we use to slobber over in the 90's. From first person shooters, to world domination, our entertainment is now massive, yet human patience and attention spans have diminished to the smallest of proportions. Even though gaming is now in a realm of being bigger and greater than anything in the past, it still exists within a 15 second time frame.
What does this mean? Instead of having to work through the first few hours of a game before actually finding conclusive action (thank you Zelda), gaming now allows anyone to become fully immersed within the game in seconds. This is done by video game publishers on purpose, in order to make sure they never lose the attention of the person playing the game (or anyone watching really). The benefits of this are instant, entertainment comes quick and we're left with a wow factor that will stand out in our minds as a very magical moment.
The bad (there always has to be 'a bad') games have now lost their ability to withstand the test of time. Instead of having a game that you can play over and over for years to come, you are left with a game that has lost its oomph within the first year of purchase. This is why companies like Activision/EA are making sure that you have the ability to buy a new game in the series each year. They understand that what they are giving you is going to become obsolete in 365 days. That means more money for them. If they made games that lasted years on end, then it would ultimately mean less money for them. And in the world of commerce, just like the light bulb, most companies who make mainstream things (that last), go out of business first.
Here's the thing, I'm not going to argue that games 'are not' getting better and better. I just have this feeling that we, as gamers, have lost something that we use to have when playing the old strategy and thinking games of the past. And I will say that some current games such as Starcraft and certain Massive Multiplayer games have just as much intensity and mind bending problems to solve as the old Final Fantasy games or Super Marios. However, the games that I see standing out of the crowd are usually short lived fantasies, only to be replaced with the next new and improved graphical, violent, or imaginative Triad.

KONAMI details focus for forthcoming Pro Evolution Soccer simulation

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has outlined its ambitious plans and focus for PES 2012, which it will release in Autumn 2011 for PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC, Wii, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®2, and which again boasts exclusive use of the UEFA Champions LeagueTM & UEFA Europa LeagueTM licences.

"For me, the ultimate aim in the ongoing PES series is to match what people see when they go to a match or watch a big game on TV with what they experience on their console," explains Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka, the Creative Producer of the Pro Evolution Soccer series. "As such, in consultation with football fans across the globe, we have been working non-stop to isolate and determine how to make our game marry in with how real football is played. This is key to PES 2012, and key to providing the ultimate football experience within a console title."

To this end, PES 2012 continues KONAMI's determination to work with fans of both the PES series and football in general, to create a truly realistic, immersive and utterly playable take on the modern game. Thus, the focus in PES 2012 is the instinctive way the game can be played and on teamwork in particular. Seabass and his Tokyo team have worked to recreate the very essence of top-level football, ensuring the new game's AI engine has undergone a major overhaul and provide an experience akin to being part of a real team.

Attacking play is a cornerstone of PES 2012, and the new game benefits from a more open approach that allows users to dictate the pace of movement, with all-new AI elements incorporated so team mates make runs and offer support in one-on-one situations. Players make useful dummy runs to draw defenders, and this offers users greater options to move the ball around when they are being closed down. Thus, the team works together a more cohesive unit, reacting to the movements of the player with the ball, and working to force the opposing team into mistakes.

Zonal marking and positional defending are also massively enhanced; ensuring players are forced to work harder to split the opposition defence. Meanwhile a new cursor switching system has been implemented using the right analogue stick to switch to any player on the field. This allows users to pick a team mate anywhere on the pitch, thereby allowing players to react to threats faster, and to shut down attacks more quickly. Hold up play is being tweaked to give even greater control. AI defenders are able to hold a much tighter defensive line, position themselves better and track opponents more efficiently. The off-the-ball switching also extends to key set pieces, such as goal kicks, corners, free kicks and throw-ins, and allows users to target a specific player and send them on runs or to drag defenders out of position, and allows for quick breaks and space to be exploited more easily.

The physicality of top-level football is represented as PES 2012 extends the jostling system of its predecessor. Defenders rely on their strength and stature to force a player from the ball as strikers and play makers make use of unique attributes to beat their markers. Tighter, more accurate collisions see players tumbling dependent on how they are knocked off the ball. Crucially, control is not lost, allowing the stumbling player to be brought directly back under control.

The result is a game that, more than ever, truly represents the key attributes of the world's greatest players, but without sacrificing balance and allowing single players to waltz undefended through a game. Coupled with heavily tweaked animation, more detailed lighting techniques, a wider variety of player styles, improved dead-ball situations, expanded tactics and a new customisable pass feature, means that PES 2012 truly captures the essence of top-flight football.

"Team work is what separates the world's greatest teams from their peers, and is the hub of everything within PES 2012," added Takatsuka. "PES 2012 focuses on the core elements of top-level football: attacking play, freedom of movement, the creation of space, and working together as a unit both up field and in defence. These elements combine to create a game that flows and ebbs like a real match, with individual shows of brilliance changing a game, and more control over every aspect of play within a wide-ranging yet instinctive control system. PES 2012 will turn the heads of fans everywhere."

KONAMI will be detailing further key enhancements to PES 2012 in the coming months.

PES 2012 will be released for PlayStation(R)3, Xbox 360, Windows PC, Wii, PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) and PlayStation®2 in Autumn, 2011.

Demon Hunter and the New Crossbows for Diablo III: Character and Weapons

Diablo III on its 3rd installment introduces a new addition to their line of range weapons. The crossbow is mutinously offered to all characters but it specializes more on Demon Hunter characters. With their task, demon hunters can now crush stronger zealots and zombies in one attack. Pack with powerful powers that can shut your enemy's down in no sweat; the crossbow can be your best ally.
Pistol and double crossbow shoots ace amongst all range weapons, giving the new character of demon hunter a great advantage. With the concept combining The Assassin and The Amazon-- throwing grenade and bolas will never be that tedious anymore.
Instill magic with your arrows. You can slow down your enemies even at far and take down onslaught with a blazing attack of Entangling Shot. But don't boast too much, even the greatest and the strongest characters have their weaknesses. Be aware with the group of unwieldy crystallize monster that will soon kill you-that is if you're not pack with runes. Joining the clan of witch doctor, barbarian, wizard and monks; Demon hunter will surely be a threat to the creatures of the underworld.
Blizzard went through different revisions due to countless petitions of Diablo fans. But majority of the people who play the game and has good things to say, gain more ears when it comes to Diablo's arts and designs. And for those gamers who waited for blizzard to invade the console world, The Management shows no interest to this concept.
With the introduction of new Crossbow users and different crossbow weapons, fans gorge into anticipation. Unlikely to have another warrior, rogue and/or sorcerer Blizzard introduces an archer. There has been some issues before that a long-range hunter was originally on the main cast. Now, that the final character is introduced-Diablo's line up of powerful characters is yet to rule another year of exhilarating Role playing game.
If you're now wondering what crossbow to use and what character to play well! You may want to take into consideration the game play and class. The fact that the only character, which can use one-handed crossbow, is the Demon hunter and all other characters may use both hands to use crossbow. You may not want to let your guard down, case for a non demon hunter character. Crossbow users like the demon hunter can go as far as duel-wielding its own bow. So, if you're into long-range character, Demon hunter with a crossbow is quite a perfect match for you.

Top Racing Games: Hours of Racing Thrills on Your iPad

Can an iPad become the next Nintendo or PlayStation? This device is a cool platform for many popular games of various genres. It goes great with racing games that are both fun to play and not very expensive to download.
I used to love the Mario Kart racing game on Nintendo DS and Need for Speed on my computer. But now I am more in love with the iPad games such as Shrek Kart HD, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for iPad and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD.
I can play them for hours, and I hope you can also enjoy hours of racing thrills on your tablet computer with these best, on my opinion, racing games for this iOS device.
1. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit for iPad: This racing game offers you a cool competition and a big challenge. It can really blow you away.
Are you able to outrun the law? Will you get away from police on a supercar? Or maybe you will choose to play the cop yourself and use roadblocks or EMP lock to fry racers. You can play for whoever you want. Either way is amazing and interesting.
What car do you want to drive? Will it be the Lamborghini, Pagani or other car among 20 vehicles available? Can other racers keep up with you? Race, burn up the highway by using nitro, making amazing 180 degrees spins and drifting and submit your scores to the leaderboard.
2. Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD is another thrilling game I am in love with. It is the latest edition of the Asphalt racing games for the iPad. You can play it on the second generation tablet as well.
Adrenaline HD is simply breathtaking. You race and see real-time reflections on your car. You can enjoy beautiful surface textures and shadows that are pretty realistic. There are 42 great vehicles to drive. It can be a car from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ducati and other well-known manufacturers.

This is an exciting game for little ones and their parents. The whole family can play Shrek Kart HD on the iPad and spend a marvelous weekend together. The tournaments include 19 cups and 72 challenges.

What Is Yahtzee?

To those who are unfamiliar with Yahtzee is, it is actually a dice game that was created by Milton Bradley. However according to Hasbro, the company who now owns and holds the rights of the game, the game was invented by a Canadian couple who used to play the game with their friends in their yacht back in 1954. It was then later commercialized by Edwin S. Lowe, a well-known game entrepreneur, in the year 1956.
The popular yacht game became known as Yahtzee, as what Lowe called it. The game did not gain instant popularity right away when it was introduced. So what Lowe did was he threw parties here and there and introduced the games there because he believed that for people to appreciate the game, they have to play it. The game became popular by word of mouth and soon enough about 40 million Yahtzee games were sold not only in America but all over the world.
In the 1970's the Lowe Company was brought over by the Milton Bradley Company as well as the rights to the game. The game gained millions of fans all around the world after this and each year it was estimated that about 50 million Yahtzee games are sold worldwide.
How do you play the game?
The game is fairly simple and depends largely on the player's luck. It can be played alone or by a group. The main goal or objective of this game, as in any game, is to get the highest score (of course). There are 13 rounds of this game and in each of these rounds, the players choose a specific combination and then he or she rolls the dice to try and get that combo in every one of the 13 categories. A player must score in every one of the categories. The scoring is different for each category and there are rules determining it.
The player's score from the last roll is automatically considered valid if the player is able to roll the dice in all three turns. Keep in mind that it is not always possible for each player to score in each of the categories (13 in all) so when a player or each of the player scores or gets a zero for all 13 categories (rounds), the game ends and the scores are all summed up.
A Yahtzee or "Five of a Kind" gives a player the highest possible score in the game. A "Five of a Kind" is worth 50 points.
This article is written by Hagai Baig about Yahtzee. I am very much capable of writing almost anything and I only put the real review of things which I my self see and analyses, post true review. I am a freelancer writer and write quality post. Also works for a firm named Hukumat.

Bratz Games: A Young Gal's Best Friend

Bratz are fashion dolls that enjoyed rampant popularity in 2001. They are MGA Entertainment's long overdue response to the very popular Barbie dolls. The creation of Bratz was quite a brave move as the prominence of Barbie can never be denied after all these years. But despite that, the Bratz made a very impressive impact on the American market a short time after their release. From simply being dolls, they penetrated all other media, merchandise, and industries. And that is how the Bratz games are born.
Welcome Cloe, Sasha, Jade, and Yasmin. They are the four original Bratz dolls that made it big for MGA. Unlike Barbie who is a full grown adult, the Bratz are teenagers. They look much younger and love fashion, make-up, party, and music. They have heads larger than their bodies. Their eyes are almond-shaped and their faces all dolled-up with eye shadow, lipstick, and blush on.
Bratz enjoyed immense popularity in 2005. That is also when the first few video games that featured them prominently were released. And not very soon after, the Bratz games penetrated the internet, all to a young girl's delight. There are all types of Bratz games offered online these days and they're easily accessible too.
Most of the Bratz games available over the internet are dress-up games and it's easy to understand why.
After all, these dolls are created to be played that way. In an online dress-up game, thousands of clothes, fashion accessories, and even make-up are made available to the player. Unlike most other games, there is no time limit here. There is no objective to accomplish either. Dress-up games are leisure games where players simply have to mix and match the clothes to their chosen dolls and then add all the accessories that they want. But then again, maybe there's an end goal to these games - to make your Bratz doll the prettiest girl that she can ever be.
Anyone who wants to play with these dolls doesn't have to go to the store to purchase them now. The Bratz games easily available over the web provides for the same dress-up experience, if only virtually. Whenever a child wants to play with Bratz dolls, she would have to buy every piece of clothing, shoes, and accessory to make the game enjoyable. Whereas if she simply go online to play the same kind of game, she has free access to all styles and types of clothes she wants. She can get hold of them immediately too - without having to spend a single penny at all. Indeed, online Bratz games are the better option when it comes to dress up games and enjoying these cute little dolls.
Thanks to Bratz games, every child can now be friends with Cloe, Sasha, Jade, and Yasmin. These three adorable characters are the flagship carriers of the Bratz merchandise, made more available to the young girls who adore them. Children who would like to be just as famous and just as cool as the Bratz can now easily do so with these games.

History of Game Design

Arising as a prominent branch of game development in the 1970s after the huge success of arcade video games, game designers as we know them today were tasked with designing the bulk of content for the game, including the rules, storyline, characters and overall appeal. Today, game designing is a multi-million dollar industry that's only expected to grow larger as technology advances. Take a look at the timeline below to see how the industry has evolved and expanded over the years.
1952 - Willy Higinbotham creates what is commonly referred to as "the first video game." Similar to table tennis, this 2 person game was played on an oscilloscope.
1961 - A MIT student, Steve Russell, creates the first interactive game, Spacewars, played on mainframe computers.
1971 - Computer Space, developed by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney (founders of Atari), becomes the first video arcade game released. Although it was instantly popular, many people found the game too difficult.
1972 - Realizing the potential of video games, Magnavox released Odyssey, the first home video gaming system. Most notably though, Atari is founded and quickly recognized as the leader in the video game industry. Their first released game, Pong, was wildly successful and soon became available as a home version.
1974 - Steve Jobs, one of Atari's technicians and later a circuit board creator, presented an idea to the Atari founders for a personal computer system. Because funds were tied up in other projects, Bushnell referred a venture capitalist to Jobs for funding support. That personal computer, of course, was the beginning of Apple.
1975 - The first computer game hits the markets. Gunfight used a microprocessor instead of hardwired circuits.
1977 - Retailing at $249.95, a large chunk of money at the time, the Atari 2600 game console is released.
1978 - Adding another level of competition and appeal to video games, Space Invaders hits arcades as the first game to track and display high scores. Soon after, the game Asteroids took it a step further and allowed three letter initials to be stored with top scores.
1980 - The first 3D game, Battlezone, is created. The game caught the eye of the US Government, who later modified it for training exercises. Due to the advancing complexity of games, companies begin to form teams to specifically address design. Game designers and programmers soon became separate, distinct careers.
1981 - The gaming industry proves its prominence with the first dedicated periodical, Electronic Games.
1985 - Developed by a Russian programmer, Tetris is released for arcades, video game consoles, as well as home computers.
1989 - Game Boys, handheld gaming devices made by Nintendo, hit the market to much avail. Later in the year, Sega releases the Genesis game console.
1994 - The Entertainment Software Rating Board is created due to concerns about violence in games and the marketing tactics used. Games now receive a rating displayed on the packaging.
1995 - Sony releases the PlayStation in the U.S. By 1997, 20 million units had been sold.
1996 - Arcades switch their focus from traditional video games to the more popular physical riding games, such as skiing, and car/bike racing.
1998 - The Sega Dreamcast is released, one of Sega's last pulls to stay in the market.
2000 - Sony's PlayStation 2 is released. The 500,000 initial units sell out instantly at $300 apiece. The same year, The Sims surpasses Myst as the best selling PC game. Game designers now work in teams of dozens to quickly create the complex games being sold.
2001 - "Next Generation" gaming systems are introduced. The Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube are not only more interactive for the user, but also easier to develop games for. Shortly after the release of these products, Sega announces it will no longer produce hardware.
2004 - The Nintendo DS is released as a purposefully portable system. Sony follows a year later with their portable version, the Sony PSP.
2006 - The Nintendo Wii revolutionizes the market with its controller system, designed to mimic actual physical movements such as swinging a tennis racket or throwing a bowling ball. During the same year, the PlayStation 3 is released as the most sophisticated (and expensive) console.
2007 - Apple releases the iPhone, creating an entirely new device in which to play games.
2008 - The App Store is introduced. With a diverse array of functionalities, games quickly become the most popular and lucrative "apps." Game designing and developing for Smartphone applications becomes a large niche. In a successful effort to get people of all ages involved and excited about the Wii, Nintendo releases the Wii Fit game. By the next year, Wii Sports surpasses Super Mario Bros as the bestselling video game with over 40 million units sold.
2011 - Projected to grow an additional 30% by 2016, the gaming industry produces sales of over 18 billion per year. Colleges and degrees specifically for game design and production are becoming increasingly advanced and popular.

Angry Birds Has Taken Flight As The Number One Video Game on the Market Today

Every so often, a video game hits the market that appeals to every type of player, no matter their age, gender or favorite game genre. Angry Birds is one of those games. Since its release in December 2009, its Finland-based development company, Rovio Mobile, has sold over 13 million copies.
The game was originally created for the Apple iOS system, but has since been enhanced for compatibility with a good deal of other touchscreen smartphones. Personal computer and gaming console-friendly versions of Angry Birds are now available, too. Angry Birds is being hyped as the most addictive video game on the market - mainly due to its clever, amusing style and entertaining animation, along with the fact that it only costs about a dollar to download, maybe $3 for the HD version.
The premise for Angry Birds is fairly simple. It is a puzzle video game, and the objective is to destroy a bunch of villainous pigs by launching birds at them with a slingshot. Succeed in wiping out all of the pigs before exhausting your bird supply, and you can advance to the next level. Sound silly? It is - that's why it's flying off the virtual shelves with a current count of about 100 million downloads.
The objective gets a bit more harebrained, too: as lead player, you are in control of a flock of loopy-looking birds, each a different color, on a quest for golden eggs that have been stolen and hidden by the mischievous swine. Depending on its color, each bird possesses a superpower. For instance, blue birds can split themselves into three birds at once, yellow birds have bionic distance, black birds are self-combusting, and green birds can boomerang themselves.
When found, each golden egg reveals a special purpose. For instance, finding one particular golden egg can unlock a zany new game level, another can unleash a whole new slew of pigs, and another will present you with a physics-based riddle which you'll need to solve in order to advance any further in the game. Of course, if you reach a stalemate and just simply cannot find another golden egg, you can always take wing online where you'll find hundreds of tips, tricks, and cheats posted by fellow Angry Birds addicts. You can also take launch on an Angry Bird walkthrough, where you are navigated through different settings and levels, and shown where and how you can uncover each of the golden eggs.
The creation of Angry Birds is an interesting story. It was developed around the time that the swine flu epidemic was flooding the media - and that's why the game's villains are pigs. Since its inception, a second version has been released: "Angry Birds: Rio", as well as several holiday versions. There is also chatter about a possible movie or television-series based on Angry Birds!
Angry Birds is the latest runaway hit in the video game world. It offers gamers a much-needed, amusing diversion from everyday life - and the best part may be that it's so cheap-cheap!

RPG Dice and Cheating

Brand new roleplayers should be warned about a certain kind of gamer. You'll figure this out yourself eventually, but there's no reason you should learn through the school of hard knocks. A certain highly competitive type of roleplayer tends to fudge their die rolls.
I'm not talking about the gamemaster who is rolling particularly hot and who fudge on the die roll to keep something horrible from happening to the group. That's white hat dice tactics. I'm talking about the player who out-and-out cheats on their dice rolls. Here's a few of the tactics to look out for.
Dice Tactics
The d100 is a big source of cheating in tabletop roleplaying. Since most people don't have an actual 100-sided die (they exist), most people use either two d10s or two d20s (using the last digit in double-digit numbers) to simulate the d100 experience. In either case, one die represents the single digit or single numbers (0-9) and the other represents the double digit numbers (counting by ten: 10, 20, 30...).
But if you have two dice in a roll, which one is the 1-digit number and which one is the factor of 10 can become mixed up. That's especially true if both dice are the same color or nearly the same color. My friend would roll two blue dice. While they weren't the same color, they were nearly the same color, close enough that the others at the table weren't likely in the middle of simulated melee combat to pay much attention. This created the opportunity to cheat.
Imagine that rolling a low number on a d100 was important in this game. So if his character was 70% at a particular skill, any normal roleplayer has a 70-percentile chance of succeeding. But his odds were higher. He might roll a "0" and an "8". This might be "08" or "80". He would simply choose the lower of the two numbers: a simple "8". If he rolled a "4" and a "9", then he might have rolled a "49" or a "94". The "49" was preferable, so that's the number he would call out.
Cheating Role Players
A group may not catch on to this tactic at first. They might not catch on to it for a while. But eventually, they'll notice. When we did, this gamer became notorious among our group of roleplayers. When you realize someone has such little character that they'll cheat at a make-believe game where everyone is supposed to cooperate, you really tend to develop a low opinion of that cheater.
Rational adults would have avoided or shunned this person. Since we were kids who were happy to have the extra player in the group, we continued to game with this person. The eventual solution was found when we started playing Amber Diceless Roleplaying, a type of game where the random elements are controlled by the gamemaster's own discretion. But that's another story.

The Keys to the Kingdom: Dominion Rules

There are a myriad of great board games out there, and most of them cater to party-goers that want a short and simple game, on the lighter side, or to hardcore fantasy fans that want a long and complex game, on the heavier side. But Dominion is a board-gamer's board game. It is all about strategy and the dynamics of play. Every game is challenging, and every game is fun. It is far and away the best-designed game that I've ever played.
The basic premise of the game is that you are building a kingdom, which is represented by your deck of cards. You start with a deck of some treasure (coppers) and some land (estates). You buy better treasure (silver or gold), actions, or better land (duchies and estates) with your treasure, then you discard everything and draw a new hand. When your deck runs out, you shuffle everything together and draw again. Treasures and actions have different costs based on how powerful they are, and land has a cost based on how many victory points it gives you. The point of the game is to build the best deck of treasures and actions you can so that you will then have the buying power to acquire the most land. The player with the most land (Victory Points) at the end of the game wins.
The game is highly strategic, addictive, and endlessly re-playable. There are several things about its design that make it a paragon of great game design:
The goal is deck-building.
The purpose of the game isn't to get to the finish line or to collect all the money or to kill all the other players. The goal is to build the best kingdom possible. This goal is flavor-appropriate and aesthetically-pleasing, and it makes for some phenomenal game play.
In other games you might get eliminated from a game early or your opponent might get such a phenomenal lead that you know your plight is hopeless. As a game progresses, many players often get bored, particularly the ones that are losing. You rarely see this problem with Dominion. Players are all working on their own strategies semi-independently, and each can experience varying levels of success. It is always fun to see your master plan coming to fruition, even if it isn't enough for you to end up "the" winner. When the game is going and everyone is accumulating victory points in their decks, it is often hard to keep track, and oftentimes people won't be sure who the winner is until the count at the end.
Probability
Because the prime mechanic of the game is shuffling a deck and drawing cards, the order that cards come to you is based completely on luck. This factor is important because it prevents a lot of the card interactions from being a lock. If you could engineer your deck so that you had access to certain actions and treasures every turn, some strategies would be blatantly better than others and everyone would use those strategies. The game would be quite predictable. But since there is a lot of probability, instead, strategies might succeed or fail based on luck. You might draw what you need to, and you might not. Your opponent might snatch up the last copy of a card before you can get it, or they might make you discard cards, or they might let you draw cards. There is a lot that you need to attempt to take into account, and therefore your choices are rarely black and white.
(Almost) Every game is different.
10 different cards are chosen at random for every game, and players then have to develop their strategies based on how these different cards interact with one another. The 10 cards are chosen from over 100 possible cards. This means that there is a finite-but-enormous number of possible different starting set-ups for the game.
Even when you are playing with a set of cards that is pretty familiar to you and you think you have the different strategies figured out, there usually isn't a "best" strategy that you decide on and stick with all game long. The best strategy has to adapt to what other players are doing, since they compete for the same resources as you and they can even attack you with cards. The strategy that works best will also depend on how your luck flows, like whether your opening hands are 4 and 3 copper or 5 and 2 copper, respectively.
Strategy and luck are balanced.
The game is primarily determined by the card interactions that happen, and therefore the player with the best strategy will usually win. But the game isn't completely disheartening for the new player, because there is also a lot of random factor with players constantly drawing from shuffled decks. An adequate strategist can occasionally beat an excellent strategist if the cards work out that way.
The only drawback of Dominion is that the base game costs about $45 and the expansions cost $30-$45, which means that it can be an expensive habit for a poor graduate student like myself who feels the compulsive need to have every expansion. Not as expensive as my former Magic: The Gathering or Warhammer addictions, but a bit pricey nonetheless.
The game and expansions can be affordable if you can find good deals on them online. If you play with a group you can also distribute the cost between you by taking turns buying expansions, which makes the game much cheaper than something like Magic where each player is expected to have their own set of cards. The absolute cheapest way to play Dominion, though, is online. The gameplay is fun and fast online, but I still prefer in-person games. I view the online game as more of a way to practice and hone my strategies.

Android RPG Games

Mobile phones have gotten fancier over the years. First the developers added cameras, the internet and now most smart phones can now play video games. They're not budget games like Snake or Tetris either. Smart phones are able to play video games that have the same quality that portable gaming devices produce.
One of the most recent smart phones released is Sony's Xperia Play. Xperia Play has been dubbed as the world's first PlayStation certified phone. Not only is it a phone, but it can double as a portable gaming device. The controls are very similar Sony's other products such as the PSP and the PS3 controller just to name a few.
This means you can finally play PlayStation-style video games with the comfort of a real control scheme. There is nothing more uncomfortable than playing games on your phone using the horrible numbered keypad. The most pleasant thing about the Xperia Play is that some PlayStation Classic games will be heading their way onto the system very soon.
Although there have not been any RPG PlayStation games available yet, it's more than likely that Square Enix will release some of its Final Fantasy games onto the platform. Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX have all been ported to Sony's PlayStation Network. The thought of putting Final Fantasy VII (the most popular RPG ever made) on the Xperia Play could help Sony take a hold of the market dominated mostly by Apple.
Zenonia 2 is an old-school 16-Japanese RPG much like the older Final Fantasy games from the early '90s. The 2D graphics are cute and the game itself is one of the better RPGs available on Android phones. Although the game is heavily inspired by Japanese RPGs, it's actually made in Korea. Nevertheless, I'm sure it's a game RPG fans will love playing.
Gurk is a game that will be liked from gamers who grew up in the '80s. It's an old-school style video game that is only a mere 100KB to download. Despite Gurk's very old style of graphics, it's still in color and a blast to play. There are 24 levels in all and a total of 23 monsters for you to find and kill. Gurk won't be a game liked by modern gamers, but if you grew up playing the original Nintendo game system, you will fall in love with its old-school style of gameplay.
Another RPG game available on Android phones is Dungeon Defenders: First Wave. The game is an online cooperative action-RPG much like Torchlight and Baldur's Gate. The game is free to download for most phones. The graphics are in full 3D and looks stunning for a game that costs nothing to download. Up to four players can play together online. It may be clichéd and borrows elements from most other RPG games, however its visuals and multiplayer is what makes it quite fun.
Whether you own an Xperia Play or not, there are tons of RPG games to explore on Android phones. Quite a few of them are free to download, so there's no excuse for you not to play any of the games here on offer. Let's hope Square Enix brings more Final Fantasy games to the Android market as that will certainly boost the popularity of the genre.
If you're want to play Android RPG games then you have found your perfect place. Spend fun hours while playing Free online RPG games.

WoW Guide - Race Selection

Let's face it one of the biggest decisions in your early World of Warcraft career is to choose the right race, and with more than 8 different races to choose from this is definitely not going to be an easy task. At first you might feel a little overwhelm with all the choosing, but don't worry because even if you choose the wrong race at first there is still hope.
You see, Blizzard is aware of the fact that most new player might not know exactly which race they want to play as. So, they decided to cut everyone some slack and allow people to change their races even if they characters are already level 85!! However this isn't free; it is a service that you need to pay for.
So, if you don't want to pay any more money than you already are to play the game, I suggest you read this WoW guide carefully and start off on the right foot.
Choosing The Right Race For You
Back in 2005 when World of Warcraft was just release, the game only had a total of 8 races. But over the period of the last 6 years Blizzard has release 3 different expansion packs and 2 of them had added an extra 4 races to the game. This means that there are a total of 12 races in WoW right now, however 4 of them that comes with the new expansion can only be played if you actually own the expansions.
Ok then, let's us discuss how and what to look for when choosing the right race for you. There are 3 things you should be aware of when choosing your race. First and the most important is whether the race supports the class you want to play.
Second, will the racial base attribute and traits benefit your class. Finally, you need to know whether the race you choose is in the same faction as your friends that you want to play with, because if you end up on the opposite faction than your friend then you'll not be able to play with them much at all. Anyway, here is a breakdown of all the races by faction.
Alliance Races
Human - Humans are able to play DK (Death Knight), Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, and Warriors. Their overall base attribute/stats are very even which makes them ideal for all their playable classes. So, for human I say any class would be good, but my personal favorite is Paladin or Warrior.
Dwarf - As a Dwarf you are able to play DK, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Shaman, and Warriors. Dwarfs have lower Agility and high Stamina and Strength as their starting attributes. This usually means that it is not the best idea to play Dwarf Hunter or Rogue, but because of their high Stamina, Dwarf Rogues are great for PvP. So, in conclusion my favorite classes as a Dwarf are Priest, Warrior, and Paladin.
Night Elf - The playable races for Night Elfs are Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, and DK. Night Elfs have relatively low strength but very high Agility, so in my opinion their most idea classes would be Druid, Hunter, and Rogue.
Gnome - Gnomes are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Warlock, and DK. Gnomes have very low base Strength but high Intellect and Agility. So, some of the best class for Gnomes are Warlock, Mage, Priest, and Rogue.
Draenei (Requires "The Burning Crusade") - As Draenei you're able to play Priest, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Shaman, Paladin, and DK. Overall Draenei has average base attribute with slightly lower agility and slightly higher Spirit. The best classes for Dreanei would go for Shaman, DK, Paladin, or Priest.
Worgen (Requires "Cataclysm") - Worgen are able to play as Priest, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, Warlock, and DK. Worgens have relatively lower Intellect but high Strength and Agility, this suggest that Worgens are best for melee classes. My favorite Worgen classes are Rogue, Hunter, Druid, Warrior, and DK.
Horde Races
Orc - The classes that Orcs are able to play are Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. Overall Orcs have high Strength, Stamina, and Spirit as their base attributes which suggests that it would be most idea for Orc to be as a Warrior, DK, and Shaman.
Forsaken (Undead) - The playable classes for Forsakens are Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, and DK. Forsakens have relatively average base stats with very high spirit. Personally I would play any race as Forsaken but if you must choose I would go with Warlock, Rogue, and Mages.
Tauren - Playable classes for Taurens include Priests, Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Paladin, and DK. They have very high Strength and good Stamina/Spirit. Personally my favorite class for Tauren is Druid, but they also make very good Shaman, Warrior, Paladin, Priests, and DK as well.
Troll - The playable classes for Trolls are Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. They have pretty average base attributes with slightly lower intellect, but it's not a big deal. Overall I would play any playable class for Troll with the exception of Mages and Warlock.
Blood Elf (Requires "The Burning Crusade) - Blood Elfs are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Paladin, and DK. Blood Elfs have high intellect and Agility, but their other stats are not too low either. Overall for Blood Elf I would personally play Mage, Warlock, Rogue, and Hunter.
Goblin (Requires "Cataclysm") - Goblins are able to play Priests, Rogue, Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Warlock, Shaman, and DK. Goblins have very similar stats as Blood Elfs; high intellect and Agility. Personally I would play Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Priest, and Hunter for Goblins.
That's all of the 12 playable races in World of Warcraft. I want to point out that although I have mention base attribute as a primary factor for choosing your race, but really it is not. Racial traits are actually more important but I really don't have the time to cover everything in this WoW guide.
Anyway, if you want to check out my free WoW class guide, race guide, or other guides right now. Just click on this link for Nindles WoW Guide.

Call of Duty Elite-like programs a 'necessity' - Activision

Activision's first significant foray into the social network sphere--Call of Duty: Elite--deploys this November alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. However, it is by no means planned to be the last such foray.
"We believe that a 24/7, year-round services strategy that broadens the game experience beyond just playing is going to be a necessity," Activision's digital vice president Jamie Berger said in a new interview with MCV.
"Right now, it's an option, but in three to five years, it won't be. To support a diverse player base, you will have to have a services and ongoing content strategy. I don't see how games are going to manage without that…Elite is about Call of Duty being bigger than ever five years from now and laying the groundwork for that."
Elite will officially launch alongside Modern Warfare 3 on November 8. The service will have free features and a premium component that is priced at $50 a year and comes included with the $100 Hardened edition of the game. Those who subscribe to Elite will gain access to all 20 pieces of downloadable content that will be released for the game--a $60 value.
The movement toward connected gaming is already apparent both with Activision and competing publishers. On top of Elite, it is likely Bungie's first title with Activision will offer a social network, as the company did with the Halo series through Bungie.net.
Outside of Activision, Electronic Arts is cementing a foothold in social networks for its games as well. The publisher is rolling out EA Sports Football Club for FIFA 12 and Battlelog for this October's Battlefield 3, which itself is based on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit's Autolog network.

EA teams up with Virgin for Battlefield 3 comp

EA has announced it will be teaming up with Richard Branson's previously announced gaming service, Virgin Gaming, to host a worldwide Battlefield 3 online competition.

The Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament--billed by EA as "the largest video game competition in gaming history"--will see players from around the world competing in an online Battlefield 3 tournament for the chance to win a share of the US$1.6 million prize pool.
The tournament will begin in early 2012, and will culminate in a live grand finale.
To pre-register for the tournament, players must sign up to Virgin Gaming; according to EA, further details about the event will be released closer to 2012.
The Battlefield 3 open beta will begin on September 29 and close on October 10 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of the game.
Battlefield 3 will include both a single-player campaign and an online component, which can be played with up to 64 players (for the PC version only). It will also support co-op play for its campaign.
For more information on the online tournament, visit BattlefieldMillions.com. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Battlefield 3.

StarCraft 2 Guide Terran - A Handy Manual for an Unbeatable Terran

The Terrans are generally distinguished for their knack to survive in the face of inhospitable surroundings they are placed in. Cut off from the Earth and followed by their landing on three different planets in year 2259, the Terrans were largely divided into three main divisions; with Terran Confederacy being the strongest. The division was followed by the first Great War which set collisions even among the Terrans themselves. If you have decided to embark on the race of a Terran, there are many things that you could learn from the available StarCraft 2 Guide Terran. Whether your opponents are the Zergs, the Protoss or even Terrans, the StarCraft 2 Guide Terran offers you tips on the right strategies to be used and rest assured, you will be all ready no matter how daunting the situation will be.
One of the first things you'd learn from StarCraft 2 Guide Terran would probably be the physical characteristics of Terrans; after all, you'd be one of them in the game. It can be surprising that, given the somewhat incompetent characteristics Blizzard Entertainment has endowed them with; the tenacity portrayed by the Terrans is highly notable. Although their power is inferior to those of Zergs, and their technologies are inexpert compared to those of Protoss, their resilience is unbeatable and nothing can break their willpower to subsist. It is good that you get to know yourself better before the game is carried to a more challenging level.
Over the net, there are many tutor videos on StarCraft 2 Guide Terran posted on broadcasting sites. Most videos often show an ongoing game or probably some screen shots with explanations on its side panel and the recommended strategies if you encounter such similar situations. Whilst you could learn a handful of tips from these videos, they often leave you asking for more. Thus, it would be advisable to get a proper StarCraft 2 Guide Terran as a handy manual. This will provide you in-depth details regarding the recommended strategies as well as the management of the macros and micros; which play a crucial role in the game.
For instance, the StarCraft 2 Guide Terran provided by Shokz, among others, explains the macro and micro management so adroitly; something you could never gain from free tutor videos or websites. You can get useful information such as how to progress rapidly without taking much time on a siege, relevant and necessary information about Mariner, the Reapers and Planetary Forces.
The macro management is explained in minutiae that include the use of hot keys and how to gain true mastery over this feature. A reliable StarCraft 2 Guide Terran will also let you know how to retrieve funds through many methods; one of them is by selling off the old unused items in your reserved territory.
When you scrutinize the flow of the game as it goes by, you will notice that the game actually revolves around harassing and engaging your enemies. Most Terran players do not know the importance of Vikings, but a proper guide will describe how you as a Terran can make use of Vikings to counteract your foes. It depends, though, on which foe you want to work against. If your opponents are Zergs, who gain power through inexpensive biological replications of buildings and units, then you could use the Vikings as your front line. But if you are thwarting against the Protoss, you probably shouldn't rely much on the Vikings as the Protoss' technology is far-fetched, they might just sense your tactic. You could probably use the Vikings as a means to engage the Protoss while tackling their weakness points.
There are actually thousands of details you should know about playing a Terran and to succeed in it. Well, needless to say quite a number of shokz StarCraft 2 guide out there makes this possible for you. Shokz is still preferred by many according to the ratings and reviews it gets; however it is up to your research and judgment to decide on which one you should put your trust on when it comes to acquiring a shokz StarCraft 2 guide for yourself.

Witcher 2 2.0 comes with combat overhaul

The Witcher 2 2.0 launches in just two days, and ahead of that we've learned not just to expect the new tutorial system, Arena mode, and Dark mode as previously detailed, but a combat overhaul.

The highlights: parrying is unlimited, though maximum damage reduction is 50%, control responsiveness is improved, targeting is improved, and pivoting is in (fans of the books should especially love that).
Aside from that, there are a long list of bug fixes and other improvements; see below for the full skinny on all. Sadly there's no UI overhaul as many had hoped, but it's not too hard to overlook with all the goodies here.
Corrections and improvements to combat:
• Numerous improvements have been made in the targeting system.
• Parrying is now unlimited (even when Vigor is completely depleted), though parries no longer cancel all damage (maximum 50% reduction once the relevant ability has been acquired).
• Responsiveness of game controls has been improved. This includes but is not limited to casting Signs, parrying, and attacking immediately after evading an opponent’s assault.
• Geralt’s attacks are no longer interrupted by attacking opponents. Attacks are now contiguous and foes cannot interrupt Geralt’s attacks by landing a blow.
• Assorted fixes now prevent opponents from incessantly attacking Geralt after he has been knocked down. Geralt can no longer be knocked down repeatedly in quick succession. Also, he rises quickly while evading subsequent attacks.
• Geralt no longer attacks opponents located behind other opponents positioned nearer to him.
• The target locking system has been improved. Preference is now given to previously highlighted targets.
• Target selection has been improved. Priority is now given to foes affected by a critical effect facilitating the completion of a finishing move.
• The additional two steps Geralt took after mounting an attack with the W, S, A or D key depressed have been eliminated.
• Attacks can now be continued even when a key controlling Geralt’s movement (e.g. W, S, A, D) is depressed.
• Attacks can now be continued if the attack key is depressed immediately after the final strike of an attack animation sequence.
• Geralt can now pivot 180 degrees immediately after completing an attack.
• Assorted problems with key responsiveness have been resolved. Keys no longer need to be depressed twice or more to trigger a given action.
• A distance attack problem has been resolved. Geralt now mounts distance attacks (lunge with sword in hand in the Fast style) when opponents were located at a suitable distance from him.

Other corrections and amendments:
• Casting several bombs no longer blocks further inputs.
• An option has been added to the configuration tool enabling aspect ratio to be set independently of resolution.
• The amount of disk space required for game patching has been reduced.
• The loading of selected Witcher 1 game saves no longer causes the game to crash.
• A greater number of monsters now appear in the cave leading to Loc Muinne.
• Improvements have been made in the manner in which monsters are spawned in the mist in Chapter 2.
• The visual effect accompanying Adrenaline use no longer disappears prematurely.
• Archers now draw their swords more quickly when Geralt approaches.
• Mages no longer automatically cast shield spells when Geralt casts daggers at them.
• The game is now paused when Geralt executes a finishing move in combat.
• The troll in Chapter 2 has been corrected. Previously, in some circumstances he could not be attacked.
• Physics on cast daggers have been improved.
• The site for aiming daggers is now more visible.
• Geralt’s animation when he dies while casting the Axii Sign has been corrected.
• An exploit in the fight against Letho has been eliminated. Previously, this foe could be killed by casting bombs in quick succession.
• An exploit related to the ‘Insane’ difficulty setting has been eliminated. Previously, game saves could be loaded with difficulty set to this level, which was contrary to design intentions.
• Camera positioning/operation has been corrected during the boss fight against the kayran.
• Camera control via gamepads has been improved.
• Assorted adjustments have been made in mutagen statistics.
• The ‘Junk’ filter in the Inventory has been adjusted to provide for correct item filtering.
• In the Inventory, the dialogue window warning of prohibited actions has been corrected.
• Assorted corrections have been introduced to the mini-map in Chapter 1.
• Audio balance throughout the game has been adjusted.
• Erratic character teleportation in mini–games has been eliminated.
• Assorted adjustments have been made in animations applying to nekkers.
• A minor bug in the “Scent of Incense” quest has been resolved.
• Numerous minor fixes have been introduced in character lip-sync throughout the game.

Gameloft's Max Payne style Game Called 9mm finally released for Android

b_500_274_16777215_0___images_stories_news_9mm_9mm-HD-android-game.jpg
We've seen all the trailers and heard the killer soundtrack as well over the past couple of month. iOS already has had their version released and now finally we get to dive into the Max Payne style of game from Gameloft called 9mm which brings the raw, uncensored type of gaming to Android finally that you usually find on consoles and PC games.
In 9mm you play as John "Loose" Kannon who leads a special team of rather rough cops who deal with drug lords and gangsters on a daily basis. When they end up killing a Drug Lord's brother and stealing millions the bad guys come after them. There really isn't a good guy in this game and that is nice for a change.
Features:
  • Dive headlong into this stylish third-person shooter game where you’ll jump and fire clip after clip from your guns in stunning slow motion stunts to take out rooms full of criminals.
  • The action simulation really comes to life as destructible 3D environments splinter and explode.
  • Arm yourself with an arsenal of weapons, including a pistol, shotgun, submachine gun, grenade launcher and more.
  • Fight crime and corruption in varied locations like the Latino Suburbs, Night Club, Police Department, Rich Suburbs, Industrial Area and Mexico.
  • Catch gang leaders and informants alive, chasing them through city streets and taking them aside for a not-so-friendly chat in the interrogation challenge.
  • Play 9mm online to join friends and other opponents in grand Free for All and Team Deathmatch gunfights for up to 12 players on 4 different maps.
  • Full Hip Hop soundtrack from artists including Apathy, Beanie Sigel and Freeway & Jake One

A lot of people have been waiting for this game to finally land on the Android Market and now it is finally here for you to play. This is, of course, if your Android device is supported which hopefully it is since the online multiplayer looks pretty badass. You can grab 9mm HD off the Android Market for $6.99 or head over to the Gameloft store where it should also be available for the usual $4.99. For those of you who missed it, here is the original 9mm trailer for your enjoyment. The trailer really isn't safe for work though, just a heads up.

Top 10 Japanese Games to Look Forward to in 2011

We’ve had a great year of Japanese games, we had Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Trinity Universe, Resonance of Fate, White Knight Chronicles, and that is only naming a few of the great titles that Japan has put out for the world this year.  It seems as though this trend will continue into next year too. Let us take a little dive into what I believe will be the top 10 Japanese games of 2011.

Ni No Kuni | TBA 2011 – From the minds of Level 5 (White Knight Chronicles and Dark Cloud) surely is to outdo themselves in their next game, Ni No Kuni.  I’m not 100% on how the game plays out at the moment, but it seems to be some sort of hybrid of JRPG combat, Blue Dragon and Pokemon. I believe one of the main aspects of the game is getting monsters to fight for you, but no one is exactly sure on the specifics.  The interesting thing about the game known thus far is the animation is being done by Studio Ghibli, known for doing such well known movies as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and many more.  It is being released on both the PS3 and DS, but dates haven’t been decided yet, the difference between the versions is that the DS will have much more of anime style approach to cut scenes.  Will the game promise the lush open world map we have seen the trailer, will we enter into a land magic and mystical wonders, I can’t wait to find out.

The Last Guardian | Q4 2011– If Team Ico has proven anything to us over their last two games (ICO and Shadow of the Colossus), they can not only create a vast a beautiful world which could also be noted as visual art, but also tell an original story without any real dialogue from characters.  The Last Guardian tasks you as a young boy looking after the giant fluffy griffin – like creature named Trico as the boy and giant begin growing a friendship, it is shown in gameplay footage that the creature will be attacked by soldiers, and arrows can be taken out of the creature as may be a sign of friendship, and this could be one of the many different ways of interaction with the creature.  There are said to be more creatures like Trico in the game but Team Ico is keeping the doors locked from us gamers until release.  The game has got a lot of coverage right now and from what I’ve seen the game looks interesting and I can’t wait to explore Team Ico’s new explosive world and we’ll mostly likely see some fun tie-ins along the way.

Yakuza 4 | March 15, 2011 – May be one of the rare exceptions of most Japanese games (ones without English dubbed voice overs), Yakuza entranced western gamers with its dynamic combat system, interesting characters, free forming world and the look on the modern day Japanese Yakuza.  It opened up you path ways for Japanese games to be released in western countries.  To this day, many western fans will defend this game series with their own lives, and now that Yakuza 4,  western fans can’t wait to play as Kazuma Kiryu again, alongside the mysterious new allies, the game seems to be taking a split story approach.  It has been out a while is quite a while in Japan, now it is soon time for us Western gamers to go back to good old Kamurocho and kick some ass.  So who are the new three main characters you will be playing as throughout the game, we’ll just have to wait and find out, that and you can also look forward to the next Yakuza game, “Yakuza of the End”, where Kazuma battles zombies (I kid you not).

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword | TBA 2011 – What more can you really say about the legend of Zelda series that hasn’t been said already? The games have always been brilliant and this looks like no exception.  In this games setting, Link is born and raised on an island floating above the clouds, and one day he finds the Skyward Sword (and then soon to be Master Sword), that transports him to the world below that has been taken over by darkness, and Link will be guided by his sword which will assume the form of the female figure in the concept art while giving link advice.  The Zelda series has been known for its use of challenging puzzles and inventive gadgets and from what we’ve seen from the teasers, the guys at Nintendo are truly working their butts off polishing this game so that every single thing is to Zelda game standard, and hopefully we will see a lot more gameplay footage to come in the following months that will show us more of our favourite Nintendo hero (I mean besides Samus).

Catherine | TBA 2011 -  OK for the many people asking what is Catherine, well you’re in for quite a shock, Catherine is the new game being developed by the Atlus Persona Team, the same minds that brought us the Shin Megami Tensei Series, and the Trauma Centre series.  From what little right now there is online about this it, the game seems to be both a psychological story, and be placed in a world of dreams with limitless potential, the story of a man for has a one night stand with the girl known as Catherine, and soon after starts having terrible nightmares that seem too real, and you know that when it’s from the guys that have produced games with the setting of a demon apocalypse where you recruit demons to help you survive, and a world of people’s hearts inside of a world through the TV, you know that the games got to have a lot of interesting ideas being thrown around by the creative team, and to be honest, I’ll be pretty excited to see what is to become of this Catherine, the dream world concept has been explored before by many different game developers before, but now that it’s in the  hands of the Persona team, that limitless potential of dreams shall be used by the most creative developers in the world, and that people is the true thing to look forward too.

Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy | Spring 2011 – Ah yes, remember Final Fantasy Dissidia, that little awesome PSP fighting gem, that featured the main characters and villains from Final Fantasy 1 to 10, with two other extras unlock able characters from 11 and 12.  It’s getting a prequel that developers promise to be even bigger and better, Dissidia 012 will tell the story of the twelfth cycle (Dissidia being the 13th) of battle between our favourite final fantasy characters, and explain story wise why the new characters weren’t in Dissidia.  There is a lot of new features being added and some old features being updated, we have the inclusion of an assist system allowing you to summon an ally into battle to help you, a world map to replace the chess board style movement in the last game, and the inclusion of new final fantasy characters to play as, so far we have Kain from Final Fantasy IV, good old Tifa from Final Fantasy VII, Laguna from Final Fantasy VIII, Vaan from Final Fantasy XII and Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, and this is only the ones that have been announced so far (Please god let there be an Auron), the game has my teeth chatting with anticipation, it has a lot of high expectation and I hope it lives up to those, and then soon we may well have the full out war.

Disgaea 4 | Q2 2011 – Disgaea is a great game that is sadly still underrated by many gamers, but hopefully with the new release of Disgaea 4, thinks will change.  Disgaea games are really well known for their uncommon RPG elements, such as complex gameplay, extremely high maximum stats and humorous dialogue (most of which break the fourth wall).  The main character is a vampire named Valbatoze who gave up his powers after an unknown event and now works as the warden of a prison and a caretaker looking after the souls of humans who have become prinnies after death, but after seeing how corrupt the netherworld government is, he decides he rises up and seeks to overthrow the overlord.  For a Disgaea game, the plot is unusual (understatement of the year), but I can see they want to take a new approach and I applaud Nippon Ichi Software with the work they have done with the series thus far, and I will be pre-ordering my copy now, “I can’t wait for the release dood”.

The Last Story | TBA 2011 – If Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of the Final Fantasy series) has taught me one thing, it’s that he still continues to create brilliant well thought out JRPGs in his company, Mistwalker, he has so far created gems like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey which some gamers argue to be the greatest RPG in the last decade, and in the world of JRPG gamers, you can’t get much closer to perfection than Hironobu himself, and I am very much looking forward to his next title, “The Last Story”.  In this game the gameplay well take the form real time strategy combat, a somewhat mix of demon souls and Infinite Undiscovery, and that will be an interesting look to see how the combat will truly turn out, and with Nobuo Uematsu returning as composer from many other Mistwalker and final fantasy titles, you are sure to hear some orgasmic scores.  The story of “The Last Story” revolves around a group of mercenaries that have come from the desolate continent to Ruli City seeking work, and nothing else is known so far but from what we’ve seen from the trailers the game seems to have this beautiful landscape yet set in a near destroyed world that somehow still maintain some level of darkness along with it, Mistwalker keep their doors firmly shut with the plot until release and I wouldn’t want that any other way from the great mind of the Final Fantasy Series.

The 3rd Birthday | Q1 2011 – Like many gamers including myself, you are no doubt in dreading anticipation for the third entry in the Parasite Eve series since 2000.  It has been one hell of a fucking wait, but finally we get the next Parasite Eve game, Manhattan is being destroyed by hideous creatures and Aya has lost her memory, it is up to her to save the world.  Other than the average fan rant I’d usually talk about an amazing title, I’m just finally glad we get to play this game; it truly has been a long wait, and I nearly given up hope that it would be out this year.  The game is being released on the PSP, and we know that is not a problem ever since playing kingdom hearts birth by sleep in 2010, it proved that only games work on the PSP, they can actually be the best in the series, so let us hope this game will prove to be better than the past game in series, because it has been a long time and technology has advanced, and we’ll be surprised to see what new features they will add to our beloved game, lets welcome the game series back into our collection with open arms.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 | TBA 2011 – What can you truly say about Valkyria Chronicles? It had lush and beautiful brush stroke graphics, it was dark and serious toned, and had the story of a small country people rising above all hardships, in order to save their home, and it was brilliant, and fans pleaded to Sega for a sequel that we got one, on the PSP.  Many fans were pissed about the change in graphical design that replaced the unique design of the first game with anime style visuals which I guess they incorporated from the anime adaption of the first game, and now he have Valkyria Chronicles 3 on its way.  Not only is this a chance for the developers to improve now that they’ve created the second game on the PSP, but the story for this game has truly got me itching me all over to play this game already, and the story takes us back to the first game during the Imperial Invasion, Gallian Army Squad 442, also known as “The Nameless”, known for doing the dirty and dangerous missions that normal squads wouldn’t do, the squad is composed of deserters, criminals, and military offenders whose real names are erased from the records and thereon officially referred to by numbers.  The three main characters the story revolve around are, No.7 Kurt Irving, a disgraced army officer who wishes to redeem himself, Ace No.1 Imca, a female Darcsen heavy weapons specialist who seeks revenge against the Valkyria who destroyed her home, and No.13 Riela Marcellis, an unlucky young woman who happens to be a descendant of the Valkyria, and the strange part of this game is, these characters sound awesome and well developed already from this description, but what truly interests me the most, and what shocked me while I was watching the trailer was the inclusion of an mysterious Imperial unit, made of mostly Darscens but knowing the imperials hate for Darscens, make that an even better story, and that people is how you make a game interesting before its even released, no other Japanese game am I hoping to play next year, than Valkyria Chronicles 3.

Now I know I’m missing some games like Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright (the name alone got my interest), Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel with its interesting combat system, Hyperdimension Neptune for the split region torn world, Metal Gear Solid Rising simply for the intriguing new take on the series, and properly many other titles that I missed or stupidly looked over when its clearly right in front of me, may be I’d properly be looking forward to the fixed version of Final Fantasy XIV on the PS3 but my hopes were crushed in the PC version. Speaking of Final Fantasy, I am aware that Vs. XIII is absent from this list – in all honesty, I’m starting to doubt if that game will ever come out. So give me your feedback, what Japanese games are you looking forward to playing in the near to come future?
